Conundrum

I’ve been having more and more people ask for an LM to my store, the answer is always the same – “Ever since the grid became so unstable and sales plummetted, it wasnt worthwhile for me to have a store, I wasnt making enough to pay the rent, so I stick to SLX and On-Rez”

Yesterday I got offered the opportunity to open another inworld, in a new and as yet undeveloped sim. First, I had to fight the creative juices as they screamed “BLANK SLATE!!!! MAKE IT PUUUUUURDY!” and then had to think hard about the economics, is the grid ready for me? Will it have enough traffic? Will I be the only Grunge dealer in a sim of poshies? Arraargh! And then – I recount my shopping expereiences.

I rarely shop inworld, it generally ends in me crashing in lagtastic style as I’m overwhelmed with scripts and particles, after having fought with a sticky cam and barely able to pan or move in a bog of molasses. This is hardly joy, why do some people still insist on only supporting Inworld stores? Please – Tell me why YOU do it, enlighten me?

In the meantime, I’ll fiddle with making an inworld store design, even if I never get to put it anywhere, I’m scratching the creative itch

The future has already arrived. It’s just not evenly distributed yet.

And so begins my foray into building cyberpunk/sci-fantasy goodies.

I’ve created the first peice here, and hope to be making a full set of augmentations to accompany it soon, time permitting (I’ve gotten a little busy of late) and the title for the set is still undecided, though the word “Datamancer” keeps tickling the back of my mind.

Its animated at the temple attachment point, and the lens flickers and scrolls data in front of your eye. Though I have some loose ideas, I’d welcome suggestions or thoughts on this set.

I’d started making a headpeice to incorporate, but it very quickly took on a life of its own, far more science fantasy than cyberpunk:

And I’m not sure if I’ll ever sell this peice, while I will enjoy bringing it out once in a while, I can’t see the call for crown’s/tiaras whateveryouwannacallit growing any time soon.

And in the cyberpunk vein, a new creation from GrimBros (Cutea Benelli) inspired alot of picture taking in the new studio:

And I’m not the only one

So much has changed since I last posted!

Firstly: I got partnered! I dont think it *really hit me* till about 30 mins before I was due to walk down the aisle, at which point I became a total and utter mess, but still, everything went off without incedent. We got our reception inside the club that has been my first SL home since I began playing, The Shadowed Stronghold.

Within a few weeks of this, and after over a year of successful SL business, The Stronghold closed its doors. For the very same reason I closed my inworld shop most likely, the sheer instability of the grid.

Gruk put his first completed build on SLX!! And I am sooo proud of this, I got the opportunity to watch him build and he is FAST! With the addition of his own textures, he really does acheive a high quality build at low prim cost. <PIMP>

So if your looking for a desolate church, take advantage of his competitive price and visit Grunk!

The eye that looks ahead to the safe course is closed forever.

I must awaken the geek within! – Who am I kidding? My inner geek is far from sleeping.

I took Gruk and my inner geek over to Splintered Rock to explore the Arrakeen dunes.

While I’d drooled over the Stillsuits before, I’d managed to resist the urge to buy one – Until being submerged in this awesome Sim, I couldn’t hold out for more than 5 minutes before getting my mitts on the Stilluit, wierding module and crysknife.

We clambered and explored many nooks and crannies here, stealing through peoples houses, tearing around the Bene Gesserit Sanctuary, and generally causing havoc. Though the sands called our names the longest.We walked, ran and bounced with as much rythym as we could muster, but the Worms decided they didn’t wanna play with us after all

No biggie – After reading the Wiki and the forums for this place, I’ve decided I’ll be back to experience some of thier rp. It looks well structured and fun, hell I think I have to go read them dang books :/

Forging a head

We had a new addition to the Scrapyard! Well.. a patch of grass with about 468 prims Perfect for tinkering with those new builds, or painting up an Airship.

Which means I dont need to tether myself in a sandbox to avoid getting orbited while building anymore! I can get orbited in my own backyard <3

I got treated to a set of 3 sculpty heads by my better half after completing the mohawks, and though they look scary, the medium actually fits my head shape veeeerry well. With that added motivation, I got busy again!

This time in just the natural colours, and as usual Mod/Copy. Yes I want people to play with this! I tend to accessorize with mine:

The fringe looks really cute poking out underneath the bandana.

The Remarkable Ms. Ghia!

You know how hard it is to find decent post apoc/steam/Grunge furniture in Second Life if you are NOT a Neko?? Raaaaahhh!! Or God forbid you might want decent poses or anims! ShockHorror!

I have a fiance, so I did not want to sleep on a single pose dirty matress thankyouverymuch – and like most people in SL, I watch my primcount like a scrooge, so I spent HOURS searching for a decent bed with no luck.

This is my official shoutout Thanks to Dinee Ghia for being such an awesome friend and talented builder, and of course, coming to my rescue!

Isnt this awesome? Just 4 prims, and fully scripted!

Wait – It gets better!

After seeing some of Dinee’s fantastic Jewelry, I’d asked if she could create a set of Dog Tags for M’Gruk ‘n me, thinking in my niavete that this was a simple project! Instead (After a fair bit of fiddling and endless patience from Dinee) I got back a gorgeous peice that really pushed the prim limit for worn items. Well actually at one point it went over, so it had to be pruned back a little before it was linked together.

Since Dinee wouldnt let me pay her for her efforts, I’m sending a big THANKYOU and KUDO’S to her here <3333333

Bartertown

I’m gonna take time out here to pimp M’Gruk’s awesome shots!

Since I rarely get outside Lucretia and the sphere of SS, I’ve decided that at least once a day, I’m gonna go ’splorin with my better half.

Yesterday he patiently sat and waited while I spun the search tool roulette wheel and attempted to pick something interesting; and though the lag was bad for both of us, we still managed to have a good time. We fought in the Thunderdome, bathed in green sludge, relaxed on trash and took a guided tour around the sim on a rope trolley.

I would have loved to have seen how this place worked with the combat system, all over you can find resource drops of various kinds that are obviously intended for use withthis, but I couldnt find any HUD or system displayed anywhere

I can run Windlight, but it only results in that awful nightmarish effect of feeling like I’m moving through molasses, and my cheapy got-it-at-the-last-minute video card threatens to go Super Nova. Oh dear, what a shame… I’ll have to use Gruk’s lush photo’s more often!

Warm welcomes!

Thanks sooo much for the welcome Word gets around fast!!

I’m very proud of myself today because I finally got my first items listed on SLX! It wasn’t as hard as I thought, and with Gruk’s encouragement, I finally bit the bullet and did it!

Now I have even less of an excuse not to build XD. BUUUUT! Same applies to YOU Gruk!

So here it is :
I got fed up with finding clownish and pencil thin ‘Hawks everywhere I looked, SLX or otherwise, so I made my own. I ended up having to trim off a few prims to link it together, as I very quickly went over the max in my attempt to have a *full* looking hairstyle. I’ve got it up right now in 7 colours, all Mod/Copy, so if you have a bigger head, it shouldnt pose a problem!

Dusting off the pen

So I got inspired to document my adventures in Second Life, not exactly sure where to start, alot has happened since I started in August of’07, so maybe I’ll just start where I am now.

I live in a big rusty factory with Gruk <3 on the island of Lucretia, surrounded by some of the best friends I’ve made since I started playing.

You will often catch me dancing in The Shadowed Stronghold – hereafter known the the Stronghold, or SS, and hosting there on Friday nights.

I’ll upload some pictures and add a little more background soon, and try and get the hang of this blogging thing!
